Rytis Vincentas Urbonas, Director of Sanobiotec - a modern biotechnology company without analogues in Lithuania, which is taking the first steps towards success, explains what motivated him to engage in such unconventional activities, names the challenges he faces and points out what Lithuania should pay more attention to in order to improve the quality of life in the country.
On 24–27 September, an international multidimensional event presenting the opportunities offered by Lithuanian institutions of higher education, in particular Vilnius University, was held at Karaganda Medical University in Kazakhstan. This meeting was a part of an EU-funded project to promote study opportunities in Lithuania. The events were actively attended by students and researchers from Karaganda State A.E. Buketov University, Karaganda Technical University, and Karaganda Medical University.
On September 18-20, an international event – “Baltic Polymer Symposium 2019” - was held in Vilnius. As the chairman of the conference organizing committee Prof. Ričardas Makuška noted at the opening ceremony, the “Baltic Polymer Symposium 2019” is a great opportunity for young scientists and doctoral students to present their scientific achievements, share their experience and discover new opportunities for collaboration.
Nordplus is a Nordic-Baltic international cooperation program promoting student and teacher mobility. Aldas Jacas, a third year geography student at Vilnius University, learned about this project while it was held in Lithuania. “After the project there was very good feedback on the activities that it organizes, I learned about the possibilities to make international contacts and the opportunity to deepen my geographic knowledge,” says Aldas, and we continue to talk about his own experience with Nordplus in Iceland.
Vilnius University Council announces a public international Rector’s election at Vilnius University. Candidates may submit their applications from the 19th of August until the 31st of October, 2019.
Vilnius University (VU) strengthened its ranking in QS World University Rankings 2020 by 30 positions and now holds 458th place worldwide. VU is also ranked the highest among other Lithuanian higher education institutions and is the only one to improve its stance in this year’s evaluation results.
The Ministry of Education, Science and Sport of the Republic of Lithuania is opening a Call for applications for 50 Lithuanian state grants for full-time Master’s degree at Lithuanian higher education institutions for the 2019/2020 academic year. Funding under the Call shall be provided to the nationals of the Republic of Armenia, the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Republic of Belarus, the People’s Republic of China, Georgia, the State of Israel, Japan, the Republic of Korea, foreigners of Lithuanian origin, the Republic of Moldova and the Republic of Ukraine.
In February, professor habil. Dr. Aivaras Kareiva of the Faculty of Chemistry and Geosciences (Vilnius university) started his research visit at Kyushu university - a Japanese national university located in Fukuoka, on the island of Kyushu. During his stay, together with Vilnius university research team and scientists from Japan he plans to work on developing a new generation bone implant that will boast of ideal biocompatibility and antibacterial properties.
Mykhailo Suleimanov is studying Pharmaceutical Chemistry (Master of Technological Sciences) in Institute of Chemistry, Faculty of Chemistry and Geosciences:
