The 2025 call specifically aims to encourage such university-created R&D solutions that contribute to one or more of the 17 goals of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and/or to the European Green Deal, which aims to implement the green transformation and ensure climate neutrality in the long run.

The targeted proof-of-concept activities of R&D solutions are:

• development and testing of a technology, model and/or prototype;
• testing of a technology, model and/or prototype when imitating real conditions.

One application can be awarded the sum of 5 000 to 20 000 EUR.

The deadline for the applications is the 3rd of February, 2025.

This year, on the fifth of December, the Committee for Doctoral Studies in Chemistry of Vilnius University and the Centre for Physical Sciences and Technology approved the Model Agreement for an Internationally Joint Supervision Thesis and Dual Degree Program between Vilnius University (Lithuania) and National Taipei University of Technology (Taiwan). This agreement aims to expand cooperation between the universities and to enable PhD students from both universities to conduct research at both universities and to obtain a dual degree.

Researchers from the Faculty of Chemistry and Geosciences of Vilnius University and Taipei National University of Technology have been collaborating for more than 15 years and welcomes another joint project.

On 21 November, the Faculty of History will host an International conference "New Cultural Landscape Interpretations: Perspectives from Geography and History" organised by (Post)Authoritarian Landscapes Research Centre.

Conference is dedicated to exploring innovative approaches and compelling case studies in the interdisciplinary study of cultural landscapes —including urban, agrarian, and modified natural environments. Bringing together scholars, researchers, and practitioners from the different disciplines, this event aims to delve into emerging themes and theoretical inquiries that are shaping contemporary landscape studies. The event will take place at Vilnius University, Faculty of History (Universiteto g. 7), Room 211.

Dr Maab Elsheikh is a 36-year-old Sudanese born and raised in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. She recently graduated in dentistry and holds a PhD from Kyushu University, Japan, specialising in biomaterials. She worked as a dentist in Sudan and Saudi Arabia for three years. Since October 2024, she has been working as a postdoctoral fellow in the Faculty of Chemistry and Geosciences, Vilnius University. She is happy and excited to start a new phase of her scientific career in Lithuania. She plans to further her knowledge, publish scientific papers, participate in national and international conferences, enjoy the sights of Vilnius city and go on a journey to meet new and interesting people. Can you tell us about your journey into studying chemistry? What led you to choose this field?

I decided to study chemistry after literature studies at Italian Classical High School, so totally different background. Yes, in Italy I studied ancient Greek and Latin, but after that I decided to move to a scientific disciplines because I was thinking it could be more interesting for me that the previous studies. Between all the disciplines, chemistry was the most interesting for me. Also because chemistry is a practical discipline. I was not thinking about the future job, but only that it could be something really interesting for me.

The IC Taiwan Grand Challenge is aiming to discover promising teams early and connect them with Taiwan. Top selections will be invited to establish bases in Taiwan, linking them with funding to advance chip innovations, leveraging the world's most comprehensive semiconductor industry ecosystem to support creative endeavors.

An initial funding of USD 30,000 will be provided for teams coming to Taiwan. Based on actual needs, teams will be offered in chip development during the project execution period, including access to EDA tools, silicon intellectual property licensing services, IC professional design services, and shuttle services for multi-project wafer (MPW) runs, with a total cap of USD 3 million.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Marco Chiarini from University of Teramo (Italy) is coming to the Institute of Chemistry for an Erasmus+ teaching visit. The research activity of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Marco Chiarini is in the field of supramolecular and organometallic chemistry. He is author and co-author of more than 82 papers published in international journals (H-index 26).

In 2024 May 21 (Tuesday) 9 a.m. the lecture “NMR methods for food adulteration“ will take place and on May 23 (Thursday) 12 p.m. the lecture "Essential Oils: Bioactivity, Antioxidant Activity, and Safety in Foods" will be given.

The lectures will take place in the Faculty of Chemistry and Geosciences, Institute of Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry Auditorium (141), Naugarduko str. 24.
